Working safely
Other safety programmes deal with sequences, rules and training. A knowledge of an individual’s nature; dealing with safety regulations, stress and risks are other important pieces in the mosaic of preventing accidents at work. Apart from having terrible effects on a life, an accident can also bring with it serious direct and indirect costs. Two examples: The personalities of a logistics company’s professional HGV drivers provide important information on their performance at work. The proportion of drivers who observed the speed limits was tripled within 3 years. The other one: 68% of the service technicians at a wind energy company who, because of their personalities, were likely to panic and make ill-considered decisions, also received poor ratings for their safety behaviour.
