Objective evaluation criteria

A global communications company improved its promotion process for senior management on the basis of a combination of the HPI (personality) and HDS (risk under stress). This means that both sides of the personality, the positive and the limiting negative aspects, could be assessed. The HPI was used to establish the forms of behaviour required for a successful senior manager: being able to take the initiative and the desire for success, a good team member and setting high standards for oneself and for one’s co-workers. Risk factors for less successful senior managers were an excessive sensitivity to criticism and fault finding, constantly putting off unpopular tasks and incomprehensible decisions. These profiles of requirements made the promotion process for senior management much more effective and transparent.
